Take a walk on the wild side at Drayton Manor this half term

Love Your Zoo Week coincides with the coming half term this year (23rd – 31st May) and Drayton Manor  Zoo in Staffordshire is encouraging visitors to get involved.

Whether you’re crazy about big cats, mad about monkeys or barmy for birds, the Zoo has a wide collection of creatures great and small including a pair of critically endangered Sumatran tigers, bouncing red kangaroos, cute cotton top tamarins, unusual axolotls and a mischievous meerkat mob!

George Bryan, Director at Drayton Manor comments: “We’re a 15-acre zoo set within the grounds of a 280-acre theme park but we get involved in some fantastic global conservation work.

“Many of our animals are part of international breeding programmes that have been put in place to help conserve the species, which for one reason or another is in decline in the wild, so it’s imperative we do everything we can to support them and help them survive.

“Through our relationship with BIAZA (British and Irish association of Zoos and Aquariums) we are also involved in research projects that help to understand how to give the best levels of care possible and to ensure all of our animals are happy, healthy and thriving.”

Drayton Manor’s Thomas Land attraction is also bigger and better than ever before this year after undergoing a £2.5million expansion that saw three brand new rides plus the stunning Sodor Airport terminal open at Easter.

Love Your Zoo Week is a nationwide initiative operated by BIAZA , of which Drayton Manor Zoo is a member. Now in its fourth consecutive year, the event encourages members of the public to visit their local zoos and learn all about the good work they do.
