In this film, Discover Animals’ Geoff Moore revisits the Seychelles to talk to Nasreen Khan of the Island Conservation Society, who discusses the new giant tortoise sanctuary project at the Hilton Seychelles Labriz Resort and Spa on Silhouette Island.
The sanctuary is over 600 square metres in size and is surrounded by Indian Almond Trees as the Aldabra giant tortoises love their red fruit.
The hotel provides a number of activities to learn about the tortoises, which live to over 150 years old, including weekly tortoise feeding sessions for children. Every month, the tortoises are weighed and measured to track their growth, and children and adults alike are able to help out and get involved.
The resort has also launched its new CampCation kids club programme for August 2022 with families booking 6 nights or more enjoying CampCation at no extra charge. With a main focus on outdoor and nature adventures, little islanders will make new friends and interact with the island and marine life of one of the richest biodiversity hot spots in the Indian Ocean.
After a full day of classes, there are also plenty of fun evening activities including critically endangered Sheath-Tailed Bat patrolling with the Island Conservation Society.
Hilton Seychelles Labriz is also pioneering sustainability in Seychelles with a number of initiatives, all of which are incorporated into its classes. Campers also receive their own stainless steel water bottles to carry around as they join each activity, and the resort wash CampCation vests at the same time every day to save water and energy.
