Mounted Rural Volunteers to help Dorset Police

Discover Animals’ Geoff Moore went to visit the Dorset Police Rural Crime Team recently to find out how it is introducing a new volunteer role on horseback as part of its on-going commitment to support residents living in rural communities across the county.

The volunteers and their horses will engage with local rural communities while out on their regular hacks along bridleways, lanes and country roads, gathering intelligence and reporting anything suspicious to help support crime prevention.

Mounted Rural Volunteers will be the eyes and ears for those living in Dorset, including the farming community, similar to Neighbourhood Watch groups.

There are currently six volunteers on horseback, with the force hoping to attract more to the Dorset Police Rural Crime Team over the coming months.
