Looking for ideas on where to go with the kids to see wildlife this February half term? Take a gander at our selection of activities taking place across the country:
At Marwell Zoo, visitors this half term are being offered a host of experiences including:
- Check out your wingspan – see how you measure up against an egret, albatross or swan using the life-size pictures on the wall in the walk through aviary
- Take on the alphabet challenge and see if you can find an animal for every letter in the alphabet – don’t forget the wild animal visitors as well as resident species!
- Pack an ‘odds and ends picnic’ full of unusual snacks, bring a blanket and find a spot with a view that might include watching ostriches race!
- Measure your height and see whether you come up to a giraffe’s knee at the giraffe house – don’t forget to take a picture so you can compare next time you visit!
- Swing like a monkey in one of the five action packed adventure playgrounds. Can you move around the apparatus without touching the floor?
- Play the ‘I went to the zoo and I saw game’ as you walk around – this one’s a great one for memory skills and when you get to the end of your visit, you’ll be able to remember all of the animals you saw!
Check out the ‘Marwell Zoo’ app for feeding times, offers and an interactive map. Sometimes you might not spot the animals straight away but that’s part of the adventure. Channel your inner safari ranger and take your time – don’t forget to check inside the animal houses.

Blackpool Zoo is ready to go for a fabulous February half term with the launch of its Wild Beginnings Club and a new, exciting itinerary of talks, feeds and demonstrations.
Developed by the Education, Conservation and Research team at the zoo, Wild Beginnings encourages the next generation of wildlife experts to observe and record facts about animal behaviour on an official research sheet.
Once they have completed their study, mini explorers can hand them in to a zoo ranger in exchange for an Animal Scientist certificate!
February half term will also see the launch of a new and extended line up of talks, feeds and demonstrations. The itinerary includes old favorites such as elephants, orangutans, sea lions and otters as well as new additions including kangaroos, emus, wolves, aardvarks, tapirs and capybaras.
Visitors can also find out about the plans for the extended penguin facility, which will open in March as well as the upcoming Spring launch of the new Big Cat Habitat at two special daily talks being held throughout the week.

SEA LIFE Birmingham and SEA LIFE Manchester
At the SEA LIFE centres in Birmingham and Manchester, you can navigate the Jurassic trail this February half term and become a SEA LIFE Ranger! Adventure around the aquarium and enjoy the dino-mite activities:
- – Take part in a Jurassic trail
- – Uncover fossils
- – Meet and greet with The Professor (Manchester Only)
- – Test your knowledge in challenges
- – Enjoy photo opportunities
What’s more, guests will be able to see animals from pre-historic times up close and personal including sharks, turtles and sea anemones – giving them the true Jurassic Seas experience!
The event runs from 11th February – 26th February 2023 at SEA LIFE Manchester and from 18th February – 26th February at SEA LIFE Birmingham.
