One of the UK’s flagship attractions, London Zoo, is run by the Zoological Society of London (ZSL). Founded in 1826, the society’s mission is to promote and achieve the worldwide conservation of animals and their habitats.

It has active conservation projects in more than 50 countries and produces reports for the UN as well as building skills in the UK and abroad, supporting young conservationists amongst other things.

London Zoo itself was opened to the public in 1847 and today is set within leafy Regent’s Park. With over 750 animal species, a popular exhibit is Tiger Territory, which brings visitors face-to-face with a family of Sumatran tigers via an Indonesian habitat and floor-to-ceiling glass windows, with the aim of teaching you about the conservation issues these creatures face in the wild.

Other highlights include Gorilla Kingdom, featuring western lowland gorillas, Rainforest Life and the nocturnal Night Life. Designed by children, for children, Animal Adventure also captures the imagination and interest of younger visitors.
