Paignton Zoo

The eccentric millionaire Herbert Whitley founded Paignton Zoo in Devon in 1923 and today it is one of the UK’s leading zoos, an important conservation charity and a great family day out. Thousands of animals are housed in a range of different global habitats, from desert to rainforest, all set in an 80-acre park.

Chester Zoo

Chester Zoo is one of the top 15 zoos in the world. It was opened in 1931 by George Mottershead after he bought Oakfield Manor and seven acres of land for £3,500. With him, he brought a group of animals from a zoo at Shavington near Crewe – the first animals of Chester Zoo.

Cotswold Wildlife Park

Cotswold Wildlife Park in Oxfordshire was the brainchild of John Heyworth, who in 1969, transformed the overgrown Bradwell Grove Estate into a wildlife park, which has seen over 12 million visitors since it officially opened in 1970.
