In 2001, West Midland Safari and Leisure Park purchased two ex-Sea Life Centres to diversify the business following the outbreak of Foot and Mouth. Renamed SeaQuarium, both sites occupy coastal positions, one at Rhyl, North Wales, the other at Weston-Super-Mare, North Somerset.
A Sea Lion Theatre, similar to the one at West Midland Safari Park, was built at Seaquarium Rhyl in 2010. Both centres have ‘zoned’ exhibits that give an insight into the world beneath the waves.
SeaQuarium Rhyl has the only underwater tunnel in North Wales where visitors can walk under the waves, to see sharks, rays, conger eels and witness the wonders of the ocean within their natural habitats.
