RZSS Edinburgh Zoo’s newest arrival has been spotted out and about for the first time since arriving in May.
Now visitors will get the chance to meet the adorable L’Hoest’s monkey baby, born to first-time mum Sheli who is very protective of her newborn.
The youngster will be named in the coming weeks, once keepers find out if they have a boy or a girl, so keep an eye on the Zoo’s website and social media for more details.
The L’Hoest’s monkey can be found in forested areas in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda and Uganda. However, the species is currently listed as Vulnerable on the ICUN Red List as their population is decreasing in the wild.
L’Hoest’s monkeys are part of the European Endangered Species Programme which is managed by RZSS Edinburgh Zoo. To find out more about RZSS conservation projects in Scotland and around the world, visit rzss.org.uk
