A new home for a rescue dog is the aim of a national canine charity planning to make the most of the festive season this year by encouraging people to come forward and give a home to one of their ’12 Strays of Christmas’.
Unlike the famous song that celebrates large numbers of elaborate gifts, Finding Furever Homes, which has sponsored kennels and foster homes for rescue dogs throughout the UK, just want one thing – for adopters to come forward and change the life of one of their dogs by giving it a loving home.
For 12 days, which started on 25th December, the volunteer-run charity is using social media to focus on each of their 12 strays each day. The idea is to give all of them a day in the spotlight in the hope someone will feel compelled to offer them a new home.
Andrea Newton, trustee and founder of Finding Furever Homes, said: “We all know dogs aren’t just for Christmas, but we wanted to use this special time of year when people are thinking about helping others, and ask them to spare a thought for the wonderful dogs in rescue who are looking for someone to give them a new life.”
Andrea added: “To be able to find new homes for all ‘12 Strays of Christmas’ would be a wonderful way to bring in the New Year. If you think you can make a Christmas wish come true, we’d love to hear from you.”
The Finding Furever Homes ‘12 Strays of Christmas’ are:
- Paddy (a 2 year old male crossbreed)
- Buddy (a 2 year old male Dalmatian)
- Arlana (a 2 year old female crossbreed)
- Genie (a 4 year old female lurcher)
- Johnny (a 3 year old male greyhound)
- Pete (a 3 year old male lurcher-cross)
- Tigger (a 1 year old male Staffordshire bull terrier-cross)
- Blu (a 1 year old male American Bulldog)
- Clyde (a 1 year old male lurcher)
- Bob (a 4 year old male lurcher)
- Shadow (a 3 year old male crossbreed – to be rehomed with Chance)
- Chance (a 3 year old male crossbreed – to be rehomed with Shadow)
With any of the dogs mentioned during the 12-day period, people are first asked to agree to be ‘Rescue Ready’ before approaching the charity to adopt. To help rescue dogs settle into their new homes, Finding Furever Homes is happy to offer the services of a qualified behaviourist if needed.
Finding Furever Homes are happy to rehome dogs anywhere in England and Wales, subject to suitable home checks.

ABOUT FINDING FUREVER HOMES
Finding Furever Homes was started after Andrea Newton set up a Twitter account to help tweet to support dogs in rescues looking for homes. Through the Twitter account, Andrea got talking to other dog lovers in England and Wales, and along with three other trustees they started the charity.
Finding Furever Homes celebrated its second anniversary as a registered charity on 10th January 2016. It has already helped rehome 385 dogs and donated over £100,000 to help cover the vet and food bills of canines being cared for in other rescue charities across England and Wales.
Unlike many dog rescues, Finding Furever Homes never set out to compete with existing charities or build dog rescue facilities of its own but rather to take a pragmatic approach and support smaller dog rescues that already exist throughout England and Wales.
