Koalas take centre stage at Longleat

If you are a fan of koalas you will love Longleat’s newest attraction. Set to open Spring 2019, Koala Creek is currently home to five Southern koalas (four female and one male) and two hairy nosed wombats (one female and one male), who recently arrived from Australia.

The marsupial group are currently off show to the public, however, allowing them time to acclimatise and get used to their new surroundings.

Set within the park’s Animal Adventure, Koala Creek is a light and open space where visitors will instantly be greeted by the refreshing and cooling scent of Eucalyptus plants. A main source of food in the wild, the fragrant saplings can be found stored in neatly organised bails ready for the koalas to enjoy.

In a separate, far-reaching corner of Longleat Estate, there is a budding gum tree plantation. It is hoped that in the coming years, once the home-grown plants have begun to reach maturity, that these will supplement the koalas’ diet.

Visitors will amazed at how close they can get to the koalas as they sit perched in the lofty comfort of a tree, while “little bulldozers” Deacon and Elle, the two stocky, hairy nosed wombats hurry around below.
