Sea Life Brighton’s annual creature roll call

Staff at Sea Life Brighton are busy counting all of its sea creatures as part of its New Year stock take.

A team of eight people are undertaking a roll call of up to 3,500 creatures, including sharks, turtles and seahorses. It is expected to take up to six weeks to ensure that all residents match the aquarium’s records.

Counting the giant anaconda and anemones will be easy, but taking stock of more than 200 adorable clownfish in its newest installation, Secrets of the Reef, will be quite a challenge.

The annual creature stock take is carried out by all Sea Life Centres across the UK to guarantee that every fin, shell and egg is recorded.

General Manager at Sea Life Brighton, Max Leviston, said: “Counting all the creatures is a very long process as we have to calculate all the newcomers including the many that have recently been born on site. This is also a fantastic opportunity for visitors and marine enthusiasts to come to Sea Life Brighton, as I’m sure an extra pair of eyes during the count wouldn’t go amiss!”
