It might not be turkey and all the trimmings but Christmas Dinner for the aquatic creatures over at SEA LIFE Blackpool is no less of an occasion for it.
This Christmas Day every animal, from the smallest fish to the biggest shark, will be given a tasty Christmas Dinner treat to make their festive day as special as possible.
There’ll be tinsel, a Christmas tree and an abundance of fishy treats for the 2000 fish and aquatic creatures at the attraction, based on Blackpool’s famous Promenade.
But the main attraction, certainly for the animals, will be the feast that is the SEA LIFE Christmas Dinner, served, as you’d expect, on Christmas Day.
The turtles at SEA LIFE Blackpool – there are 7 of them based there permanently – love nothing more than their Christmas Brussel sprouts.
SEA LIFE Blackpool General Manager, Rachel Sipes, said: “They really love them. They know as soon as they see us with the sprouts that it’s Christmas. It’s lovely to watch them all tucking in.”
Then there’s the Native Fish – they simply can’t resist a special Christmas Day treat of tasty Scotts Porridge for their festive feast.
And even the 19 tropical sharks at SEA LIFE Blackpool get a special treat on December 25th – top quality salmon and mackerel (their absolute favourite) instead of their usual daily diet of whiting and squid.
Staff take a special lorry load of extras in so all the sea creatures can be spoiled with their favourite holiday season food on Christmas Day.
Rachel Sipes added: “We like to make a fuss of the beautiful aquatic creatures on Christmas Day because they are very much part of the family here. It’s great to see how much they enjoy the day, and especially their favourite food. They might not recognise Santa but they definitely know it’s Christmas.”
