Today is Earth Day, which takes place every year on 22nd April, marking the anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental movement in 1970.
Earth Day now engages more than 1 billion people every year around the protection of the planet as a day of action to change human behaviour and create global, national and local policy changes.
The Earth Day 2022 theme is Invest In Our Planet and there are a host of events and activities planned including a live stream on the day – Nature in the Race to Zero.
And with the planet now experiencing the greatest extinction rate in more than 60 million years, its Conservation and Biodiversity programme highlights the need for transformative societal change to restore and protect biodiversity. Its aim is to allow people to explore and connect with nature around them and hels establish a care ethic to make positive decisions for the environment.
Fifty-two actions and tips to make a difference every day of the year have also been created, including advocating for climate education, organising a community cleanup, switching to reusable bags, composting and taking pictures of pollinators. Find the full list here.
