The Puffins Galore! public art trail of giant puffins across Hull and East Yorkshire has proved so popular – Â attracting over 100,000 visitors – that the 42 sculptures will stay in place until 16th April 2023, having previously been due to end in November 2022.
The unique artist decoration of each puffin responds to one of three core themes:
- Endangered wildlife of the coasts and seas
- The global warming crisis and the growth of green energy
- People and stories of the East Yorkshire coast
The sculptures on the Puffin Galore! trail provide a fun-filled, joyful experience for those who see them, and aim to highlight that the much-loved puffin is seriously threatened by human activities and the effects of climate change. They will be sold after the trail ends to support charities working locally to promote conservation and preserve life at sea. Hornsea Inshore Rescue, Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, the RSPB and RNLI will all benefit from the proceeds of the project. Initial funding has been provided by Yorkshire Coast BID and East Riding Council.
