The wildlife and wetlands of WWT Steart Marshes

In this short film, Discover Animals’ Geoff Moore talks to Alys Laver, WWT Steart Marshes General Manager, about what to expect from a visit including large amounts of wintering birds, salt and freshwater marshes, and plant life.

The manmade site was finished in 2014 to compensate for the loss of salt marsh habitat in Somerset and comes to life in the winter with thousands of wintering birds such as dunlin and lapwing, while in spring you can see skylarks along the new flood bank and nesting avocets.

Visitors can walk, cycle or run along 10 kilometres of footpaths and enjoy wildflowers and viewing hides, as well as wildlife such as water voles and shrews, stoats, weasels, brown hares and bats.
