The wild dolphin, named Silhouette, is a regular visitor to Tangalooma Island Resort, Queensland, where she joins other wild dolphins to be hand fed each night by resort staff and guests. Eco Rangers who run the dolphin feeding program became alarmed last week to discover the fish hook and line lodged in the dolphin’s mouth. Enter the Poole family! With all three siblings working at the resort, they were quick to rally together and save Silhouette.
Matt, the eldest of the Poole’s, said no one needed convincing. “We, that’s Jess, Josh and I, love the dolphins – they’re one of the big reasons we’re all here,” Mr Poole said. “But we especially love Silhouette. She’s a beautiful girl and a great mum with two young dolphins – we had to help her through.” Matt knows the dolphin well. Having moved to Tangalooma Island two years ago, he is now a valued member of the resort’s dolphin care team. “I had chucked in studying law and was backpacking my way around Australia when I landed the job here. I just fell in love with the place and ended up hounding my little sister Jess and brother Josh to come and join me. It’s great to have my family here and to share experiences like this. We’ll never forget what happened on Monday night – what we did and that feeling of complete relief and joy for Silhouette. It’s unreal to think we’re all living and working on the other side world and saving dolphins.”
