Discover Animals’ Geoff Moore recently attended a two-day conference about animal care run by Secret World Wildlife Rescue.
Pearse Stokes, a highly experienced Wildlife First Responder and Rescue Coordinator, spoke to the packed audience at the Holiday Inn in Taunton about the importance of filming video of any animal that you find that may need rescuing or be in distress.
As a founding chairman of Kildare Wildlife Rescue (KWR) in Ireland, he has been involved in rescuing wildlife since 2015.
Passing these sorts of clips onto the rescue team is so valuable as it allows them to firstly identify the likely injury and secondly to collate the correct rescue tools and safety equipment that may be necessary to gain access to the animal or bird.
Sometimes the team may have notification of an animal that is repeatedly being spotted by the public. And here too, the video will often clearly show the rescuers that they know of that creature and its back story. Grabbing your phone or camera to video can be a real life saver for the animal and is so much better than snapping a still picture.
Geoff discovers more in this short film.
