Love Your Zoo week is an annual event run by the British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums (BIAZA) to help raise awareness for the important work zoos do regarding conservation, education and research.
This year, Love Your Zoo week runs over the bank holiday and half-term week, offering plenty of opportunities to support your local zoo.
To celebrate, Belfast Zoo – who also turned 85 this year – is offering a number of dedicated events and activities on Monday 27th May, Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd June. Visitors will get the chance to learn all about their favourite animals and more about the zoo’s conservation efforts. They can also participate in treasure hunts to win some ‘zooper’ prizes. plus attend keeper talks at animal feeding times.
A range of activities for all the family to enjoy also include face painting, garden games, a scrap percussion workshop and, on 1st June, visitors can meet the education animals and enjoy animal enrichment and craft workshops.
Zoo Manager, Alyn Cairns, said: ‘We are always thrilled with the support we receive from our visitors all year round, we welcome visitors to join Belfast Zoo’s ‘Love Your Zoo’ week so that they can celebrate their local zoo and find out more about our conservation efforts.’’
Belfast Zoo is dedicated to the safeguarding and conservation of animals across the globe. Belfast Zoo is a member of BIAZA, the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA) and the World Association of Zoo and Aquariums (WAZA).
