Twycross Zoo in Warwickshire will treat mums to free entry this Mother’s Day weekend – Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th March – when accompanied by another full paying child or adult.
In a series of keeper’s talks designed especially for the weekend, visitors will get the chance to learn all about animal mothers and their little ones. The parenting habits of elephants, lemurs, penguins, gibbons, otters and meerkats, plus many other animals at the zoo, will be the topic of discussion over the two days.
Twycross Zoo is the proud home to many successful animal mothers, including first time bonobo mum Kianga, who just celebrated her son Móko’s first birthday. Another mum from the great apes family who recently gave birth is Ozala, who produced a healthy and strong gorilla baby in September.
The highlight of last year was the arrival of two Amur leopard cubs, who were born to mother Kirsten, and bring hope for the survival of the critically endangered species. The two lively cubs, girls Kira and Samara, can often be seen around their habitat, exploring the environment and developing their hunting skills through play
Dr Charlotte Macdonald, Director of Life Sciences says, “We love celebrating Mother’s Day here at Twycross Zoo. It gives us a great opportunity to look at the past year and the breeding successes of our amazing animal mums.”
