A series of fictional travel posters have been created for Expedia UK to highlight the threat of extinction faced by many of our endangered animals.
Inspired by vintage mid-century travel adverts, the posters show animals once commonplace in their natural habitat – such as the Dodo in Mauritius, the Golden Toad in Costa Rica and the Giant Galliwasp in Jamaica – all sadly no longer with us.
Guidebooks can help us find out more about a country before we visit, but don’t offer much information on the wildlife that has disappeared. How many people actually know that the Moa was once endemic to New Zealand, or that just eighty years ago they could have seen a Thylacine in Tasmania?
The Unknown Tourism poster collection has been commissioned to commemorate some of the wonderful creatures we’ve lost, and are in danger of forgetting, from around the globe.
Each poster has been designed with a thought provoking message and offer a stark reminder that none of the animals can be seen in any of these countries today;

Tasmania – “Earn Your Stripes, See the Thylacine”
