In this short film, Discover Animals’ Geoff Moore visits Cholderton Rare Breeds Farm on the Wiltshire/Hampshire border to find out more about what the site offers including pig racing and guinea pig fishing!
The ‘fishing’ involves tying fresh fruit and vegetables to sticks, which visitors can use to feed the guinea pigs, ensuring they get their fill of nutrients for the day but also engaging people at the same time.
The farm also offers alpaca walks and wine tasting using produce from the site’s vineyard amongst its many activities.
There is currently a ‘Back to School’ half price ticket offer running until 21st October 2022 for both adults and children.
The Gray Manor Hotel
As a place to stay for exploring North Hampshire’s wildlife attractions, the Gray Manor Hotel is a good choice. Almost on the doorstep of Cholderton Rare Breeds Farm, it nestles in the Test Valley and is convenient for the main east west A303 trunk road too.
Extensive grounds surround the red brick former manor house and its contemporary rooms cater for couples and families. It’s also popular as a wedding venue. Dining is possible in the main dining room, the bar area or on the sunny patio. The menu had a good variety of food and the hot breakfast choice was cooked exactly as requested. Staff were helpful, friendly and quick to respond to requests. A comfortable bed, and clean bedroom and bathroom provided exactly what was needed on this brief trip to the Test Valley.
The hotel is also close by to the Hawk Conservancy, another attraction in the idyllic Test Valley, famous for the River Test and the birthplace of fly fishing.
