Knowsley Safari Park in Merseyside is situated around Knowsley Hall on the ancestral estate of the Earl of Derby. Edward Stanley, the 18th Earl opened the park to the public in 1971 and it now offers over 700 animals from peacocks to elephants and white rhino.
The safari space covers 550 acres and up close and personal experiences are made easier by attractions such as the Giraffe Tower and Elephant Platform.
Visitors are helped to learn about endangered animals through daily keeper talks and 2013 saw the park lead on DEFRA’s campaign ‘If They are Gone’, which aimed to raise awareness of the plight of rhinos, elephants, wild tigers and orang-utans as the threat of extinction continues to grow.
