Some of the world’s most elusive animals have arrived in the county of Hertfordshire, just in time for Easter, as Paradise Wildlife Park officially opens the habitats of Sun Bear Heights and Jaguar Jungle.
Coinciding with Paradise Wildlife Park’s 39th anniversary and their last year prior to rebranding to Hertfordshire Zoo in April 2024, the two new state-of-the-art habitats immerse visitors in the culture of the Pantanal of Brazil and the jungles of Southeast Asia, teaching conservation and protection of ecosystems. Vulnerable (IUCN Red List) species of sun bears, binturongs and Asian small-clawed otters are in a UK-first mixed species habitat, with resident jaguars Kumal and Kedera returning from sister site The Big Cat Sanctuary in Kent and now able to lounge near a waterfall and in the treetops.
A spokesperson for the zoo stated: ‘Whilst we are very excited to introduce new species to the park, we are equally excited to welcome back jaguars Kumal and Kedera; we know the public love them just as much as we do and we cannot wait to show everyone their new home in Jaguar Jungle.’
Paradise Wildlife Park continues to support British wildlife conservation with OZT Goes Wild, available on CBBC and BBC iPlayer, which follows brothers Aaron, Tyler and Cam Whitnall (sons of the CEO) as they set out to learn and teach younger generations about our own wildlife.
Paradise Wildlife Park will also be running an egg-tastic Easter Egg Hunt this Easter where you will be able to hunt for clues across the park and be in with the chance of winning an incredible animal experience. This will be included in the general admission ticket so there’s no better time to enjoy the new Jaguar Jungle and Sun Bear Heights.
