If you are looking for a fun activity to keep your nature-loving kids occupied why not introduce them to the new eco-friendly Build Your Own Microscope from the Build Your Own range.
Made using sustainable cardboards and minimal plastics, the fully functioning microscope offers a great way for the whole family to spend time together – and is educational, too!
Suitable for ages eight and above, the 54-piece kit is simple to assemble, with press-out cardboard pieces slotting easily together – no glue or mess to worry about! – plus lenses and mirror completing the enjoyable build.
The impressive portable microscope features a focusing dial so that kids can adjust the zoom to reduce or increase the detail of specimens they are examining, with the light source on a smartphone ideal for illuminating objects through the built-in periscope.
There’s also a choice of three trays for holding different types of specimens, with the removable microscope lens tube allowing explorers to go on location to examine their finds further afield.
For our review, we gathered feathers, leaves and mini-beasts from the garden to inspect under our newly constructed microscope and found ourselves amazed by the minute details the 30x magnification provided. A small flower petal revealed tiny droplets of water that we were unable to detect without zooming in, and the structure of a leaf became beautifully pattered when magnified.
We went on to discover a mini world of wonder in the space of an afternoon, with our Build Your Own Microscope proving the perfect stay-at-home activity.
The Build Your Own Microscope is available to buy from www.buildyourownkits.com priced £16.99
