Spring is a busy time of year for the team at RZSS Edinburgh Zoo who have been hard at work preparing for the start of the Gentoo penguin breeding season.
Keepers at RZSS Edinburgh Zoo were delighted to discover that the first gentoo penguin eggs of the year had been laid last week. The Penguin Ice Adventure at the National SEA LIFE Centre Birmingham features 12 Gentoo penguins. The birds are classified as near-threatened on the IUCN Red List, and have been bred together at the SEA LIFE Centre Melbourne as part of the Breed, Rescue, Protect programme.
Tall penguin with a white triangular patch above the eye, breeding on subantarctic islands. The fastest underwater swimming penguins, living mainly on crustaceans.
Belfast Zoological Gardens is one of the oldest visitor attractions in Northern Ireland, and has been home to animals since 1934.
